“Our study found that the ability to balance on one leg is an important brain health test,” said Yasuharu Tabara, Ph.D., lead author of the study and associate professor at the Center for Genomic Medicine at Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine in Kyoto, Japan.
“Individuals showing the lack of balance on one leg should receive more attention, as this may indicate an increased risk of diseases of the brain and cognitive impairment.”
The study consisted of 841 women and 546 men, average age of 67. To measure one leg standing time, participants standing with eyes open and raised in a leg. The maximum shelf life of the high leg was 60 seconds.

Although the study did not evaluate the stories of the problems of fitness, such as how quickly they could walk or any changes in the fall or participants march, Tabara said the test standing on one leg is an easy way to determine if there early signs of being at risk of stroke and cognitive impairment and if these patients need further evaluation.
